Why we stopped airing P- Square music videos – Soundcity TV

Nigerian cable and terrestrial
music channel, Soundcity, has
cleared the air on why it stopped
airing videos by Nigeria’s pop
twins, P-Square, since January this
year.
The television channel was
responding to an outburst by Peter
Okoye, one half of the group, to a
fan on Twitter who had
complained about the lack of P-
Square videos on Soundcity TV.
“Don’t waste ur time dear… They
will not play them … Pls keep
watching Trace TV, Mtvbase,
HipTv n Afropop. Thanks,” Peter
Okoye had responded to the fan
via his Twitter handle on
Thursday.
But in a statement titled, “What
has Soundcity ever done for P-
Square?” the urban music channel
said the decision to stop airing the
pop duo’s music videos was due to
their failure to attend to one of
their events, last year.
“For 10 years, @SoundcityTV has
been a huge supporter of #PSquare
brand, right from their 1st music
video to the last video released in
2014. Most of their videos got
massive airplay on @SoundcityTV
than any other music channel,”
the TV station said in the
statement published on its
website.
The statement noted that the
station had assisted the P-Square
brand, toured with them all over
Africa at their own expense, given
them ad-spots for their events as
well as prime time slots for their
videos.
“We invited #PSquare to one of
our annual events last December
2014 and they insisted we pay a
certain amount of money,” the
statement continued.
“We reasonably asked, what is the least we can
offer? This was us foregoing the fact that we
had invested a lot in #PSquare’s career as
music talents/artistes and entertainers.
“The feedback was ‘What has Soundcity ever
done for P-Square? Tell me one thing Soundcity
has ever done for PSquare’ (Jude Okoye,
Manager).
“While we understand that this is business,
there is also room for special consideration.
Saying our TV brand has never done anything
for #Psquare was quite damning. Clearly, there
was no need to argue with their decision.
“We decided to stop doing anything with/for
#PSquare, since our 10 years of supporting the
group meant nothing to them. We assumed our
relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but
clearly one-sided.
“Ultimately, #PSquare music videos stopped
airing on @SoundcityTV since January 01,
2015. Soundcity reserves the right to air music
videos on our cable/satellite or terrestrial
platforms.”

US pastor committed suicide after his name was exposed in Ashley Madison adultery website

John Gibson, a US pastor committed suicide six days after his name was exposed by hackers of the Ashley Madison adultery website, his wife, Christi Gibson told CNN.Canadian police have said that at least two suicides were linked to the leak of 32 million customer profiles from the Canada-based site last month. Christi Gibson discovered her husband’s body and a suicide note which chronicled his demons & his shame at being exposed - in their New Orleans home on August 24.

"He talked about depression. He talked about having his name on there, and he said he was just very, very sorry,” Gibson said as their adult son and daughter sat next to her in a New Orleans studio."Nothing is worth the loss of a father and a husband and a friend. It just didn’t merit it. It didn’t merit it at all."In addition to his work as a pastor, Gibson, 56, taught at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Gibson said her husband, who had struggled with depression and addiction in the past, was worried that he would lose his job."It wasn’t so bad that we wouldn’t have forgiven it, and so many people have said that to us, but for John, it carried such a shame," she told CNN."What we know about him is that he poured his life into other people, and he offered grace and mercy and forgiveness to everyoneelse, but somehow he couldn’t extend that to himself."Ashley Madison, launched in 2001, is known for its slogan: “Life is short. Have an affair.” It helps connect people seeking to have extramarital relationships and is owned by Avid Life Media.According to authorities, the company became aware of the hack onJuly 12 when staff were greeted in the morning with a message on their computers threatening to leak client information unless the Ashley Madison website was “shut down immediately, permanently.” The message was accompanied by rockers AC/DC’s song “Thunderstruck.”Ashley Madison ran into more trouble when tech news site Gizmodolooked at the leaked data and concluded that it showed little if any activity from the site’s purported female members, suggesting manyaccounts were in fact fake.Avid Life Media rejected the analysis and said the site has registered hundreds of thousands of new members including real women, in the wake of the hack, which has garnered massive mediaattention.Tributes to Gibson poured in from students and faculty who remembered him as a kind, generous man who would repair student’s vehicles in his spare time. He was pastor of First SouthernBaptist Church in Pearlington, Mississippi. He obtained a doctorate of theology from the seminary and was elected to the faculty in 1998, the obituary said.Source: AFP

Glo drops Naeto C, Lynxxx as brand ambassadors, signs Wizkid

MTN announced that they had dropped Wizkid, Timaya and Sean Tizzle, D'Prince as their brand ambassadors. But according to LIB, Wizkid actually moved to Globacom 4 weeks ago after complaining that MTN was delaying payment and mostly because Glo offered him more to be their ambassador. He signed a 2-year deal with Glo said to be over N100million.

Rappers Naeto C and Lynxxx have been dropped by the telecoms giant. Some ambassadors were dropped because Glo wanted to bring in more guys so they needed to decongest. I hear comedian Bovi, AY, Yoruba actor Odunlade Adekola and actor OC Ukeje have also joined Glo.

National Mourning Begins In Ghana After Deadly Ablaze

Flags flew at half mast in Ghana on Monday as three days of mourning began to honour more than 150 killed in a petrol station fire during heavy flooding in the capital, Accra.
The government asked the public to wear black as a mark of respect to those who died, as the Red Cross said that 9,250 people have been affected by both tragedies.
President John Dramani Mahama will attend a service in memory of the victims on Wednesday near the site of the fire at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, his office said in a statement.
The government said it has begun to distribute relief materials, including food, water and non-food items to those hit.
“We have been able to identify a total of 9,250 people who were affected by the flood and fire, 1,125 houses were damaged while 67 people were hospitalised as of the weekend,” Red Cross disaster management coordinator Francis Obeng told AFP.
A final death toll and full assessment of damages caused by the disaster is expected in about a month’s time, he added.
UN agencies have been drafted in to work with national bodies helping those affected by the tragedy, which Mahama described as “catastrophic and almost unprecedented”.
A fire and explosion at the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) filling station on Thursday killed scores of people seeking shelter from torrential rains that caused widespread flooding.
The fire is thought to have spread from a nearby residence and destroyed a nearby pharmacy and several neighbouring buildings.

FIFA May Take Away World Cup From Qatar, Russia.

Russia and Qatar could be stripped of the right to host the World Cup in 2018 if allegations of corruption in their bids were proved, according to FIFA’s Audit and Compliance Committee chairman, Domenico Scala.
Both bids are currently under investigation from Swiss authorities, with the FBI also reportedly paying close attention as world football’s governing body continues to be wracked by controversy.
And Scala has warned that the tournaments could well be relocated should those investigations uncover any wrongdoings.
“If evidence should emerge that the awards to Qatar and Russia only came about thanks to bought votes, then the awards could be invalidated,” Scala told SonntagsZeitung.
“This evidence has not yet been brought forth.”
